A Few Cozy Instagram Ideas for Authors This Fall

For me, autumn always brings a desire to share the cozy, bookish things I’m enjoying. But I know that sometimes, thinking of new instagram content ideas for authors and book lovers can feel a little daunting.

This season, the online bookish aesthetic feels especially cozy. Think about sharing photos with soft lighting, warm cups of tea, and maybe a flickering candle. It’s less about being perfect and more about sharing a comfortable moment. That’s the kind of bookstagram inspiration that feels most genuine and inviting.

If you’re looking for a few simple bookstagram post ideas to get you started, here are a few thoughts:

  • Share a favorite autumn quote. Find a line from a book that feels like fall and share it with a simple background. It’s a lovely way to connect over a shared feeling.
  • A peek at your reading nook. People love seeing where the reading or writing happens. A little snapshot of your favorite chair or your desk is a wonderful, personal touch.
  • Ask a simple question. Try a carousel post that starts with a question like, “What’s the coziest book you’ve ever read?” It’s a low-pressure way to start a conversation in your comments.
  • Create a little mood board. You can use a simple grid to share images that capture the instagram aesthetic for authors that you love, or the feeling of the book you’re currently writing or reading.
  • An Autumnal Book Stack. Gather a few books with covers in warm, fall colors—oranges, browns, deep reds, and golds. It’s a simple, beautiful way to celebrate the season on your shelf.
  • Your Current Read & A Warm Sip. A simple, top-down photo of your open book next to a steaming mug of tea, coffee, or cider. It’s a classic for a reason—it feels so immediate and comforting.
  • Read a book in a new place. Bring a book on a walk or to a park. A picture of a book on leaves or with an autumn view is peaceful.
  • “Spooky” Reads. Not every fall book has to be a thriller. You could share a list of books that have a cozy, slightly mysterious, or magical feel without being truly scary. Think “practical magic” vibes.
  • (For Authors) A Snippet of Your Writing Scene. Share a little piece of your writing world. It could be a snapshot of a sentence you’re working on (typed on your screen) with a candle lit beside it, or a picture of the notebook where you jot down your ideas.
  • A Cozy Bookstore or Library Wander. If you visit a local bookstore or library, share a picture of a shelf or a quiet corner that you found particularly lovely. It’s a nice way to share the bookish love with your community.

Simple Ideas for Stories & Reels:

  • A “This-or-That” Poll. Use the poll sticker in your Stories with some cozy fall choices. For example: “Rainy Day Reading or Crisp Sunny Walk?” or “Apple Cider or Pumpkin Spice Latte?”
  • A Quiet Moment Reel. Instead of a busy, trending video, try a slow, quiet one. A very short video of you turning a page, a close-up of steam rising from your tea, or the flicker of a candle flame. Set it to some soft, instrumental music.
  • Ask a Question. Use the question sticker in your Stories to ask something simple and open-ended, like “What’s a book that feels like a warm hug to you?” or “What are you hoping to read this month?”

I hope these ideas spark a little bit of inspiration for you. It’s all about finding simple ways to share what you love.

Creating a cohesive look for all these different ideas—from posts to stories and even your ig highlight covers—can sometimes feel like another task on the to-do list. The goal is to spend more time connecting and less time wrestling with design software.

With that in mind, I put together a little collection of autumn-inspired Canva templates for this very reason. They were thoughtfully designed for writers and book lovers to help create a warm, bookstagram aesthetic without the stress. If you’re curious, you can wander over and take a look at them here. Bookstagram Templates IG Bundle.

Using templates offers a starting point, taking away the pressure of a completely blank page. You already have a simple, beautiful structure to work with, so you can just focus on filling it with your words and ideas.

Using templates also helps create a cohesive, calm feeling for your little corner of the internet. When your posts share a similar look, it makes your feed feel intentional and peaceful, like walking into a favorite, familiar room.

It makes things easier for you. It frees up your time and energy. You can then focus on what you love. This includes reading, writing, or relaxing with tea. It’s about sharing what you love. What are you excited to share on Instagram this fall?
