What Do You Get a Book Lover Who Has Enough Books? A Gift Guide for Book Lovers (Part One)

Do you ever wonder what to get for the book lover in your life? Their “to-be-read” pile is already high, so adding another book can sometimes feel a little overwhelming.

Sometimes, the most thoughtful gifts aren’t more books, but rather the little things that make reading time more special. It’s a way to celebrate the feeling of reading. So, I thought I’d share a few simple ideas over a couple of posts.

Creating a Cozy Space

Many would agree that good lighting makes reading so much more comfortable. A soft, warm glow is not only easier on the eyes, but it also makes a whole room feel cozier.

  • A warm book light. An amber-colored or blue-light-free light is gentle on the eyes, making it perfect for reading before bed.
  • A simple clip-on light. These are perfect for paperbacks and can be easily moved from an armchair to the porch.
  • A hands-free neck light. This might sound a little silly, but it’s practical! It leaves both hands free for holding a warm mug of tea or snuggling under a blanket.

A Scent for the Story

A scent can make you feel like you’re right there in the story. It’s a simple way to make the world of the book feel a little more real.

  • Literary-inspired candles. Many small shops create candles with scents inspired by specific books, genres, or even the smell of an old library. For a personal touch, you could create your own! Simply find candles with scents that evoke a certain genre—like salty sea air for adventure tales or pine and campfire for mysteries—and design unique, cute labels. This can be an affordable yet deeply thoughtful gift that anyone would enjoy.

Cozy Comforts

For those afternoons spent curled up with a book for hours, comfort is everything. A gift that adds a little extra softness to their favorite reading spot is always welcome.

  • A unique reading blanket. Consider one printed with a favorite literary quote or an image from their favorite book.
  • An ergonomic reading pillow. These are specially shaped to provide support while reading in bed or in a favorite chair. It’s a little bit of everyday luxury.

It’s all about gifting a feeling. The feeling of time spent lost in a good story.

I have a few more ideas on this topic that I’m looking forward to sharing. In the next post, we’ll chat about some of the more practical tools every reader loves, like beautiful bookmarks and clever page holders.

For now, though, what’s one thing that makes your reading spot feel extra special?
